Talk: Studying Medicine in Cuba

A Seven Year Journey

David Lavender, who has been living in Cuba since 2010, gives a presentation covering medicine, politics, culture, and personal experiences from the Greater Antilles' biggest island. Started in 1999, the Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina (ELAM) has trained over 20,000 doctors from 110 countries around the world. The training is free, with the understanding that students will go back into their communities, working where access to medicine has traditionally been scarce if present at all.
